CNN’s Anderson Cooper and HLN’s Dr. Drew got serious Tuesday night about stories in the news, but also took time to share a few laughs over their favorite TV shows, Kathy Griffin, and going gray.
Cooper began by telling Dr. Drew that he's often been accused of "focusing on human stories and human beings as opposed to geopolitical significance on things.”
Cooper added, "I don’t think that’s bad."
Dr. Drew responded, “That [actually should be seen as] a compliment.”
The conversation moved to Cooper’s experiences with his New Year’s Eve co-host Kathy Griffin. Although, Cooper says working with Griffin is fun, sometimes, he thinks, she can be dangerous.
“She takes her clothes off all the time ... I was on the news [one] night doing a broadcast, and she was texting me naked pictures of herself,” Cooper explained.
On a more serious note, the two also discussed the impact of social media.
"There’s a cruelty which I think exists because of the Internet and the anonymity that the Internet gives,” Cooper said. “When you actually find these people and confront them, they completely collapse. They don’t have the guts in real life ... there in the safety of their own little room.”
Dr. Drew added, “It’s not only the anonymity, it’s also like we’re cartoon characters that people can throw darts at.”
Hair color also became a topic of conversation as well as Cooper’s famous Vanderbilt family name, among many other things.
"Did you go gray early?" Cooper asked Dr. Drew.
Drew responded, "I went gray the first year of my triplets' lives."
Regarding the Vanderbilt name, Cooper remarks, “I’m very glad Cooper is my last name and not that other name because it doesn’t come with the same kind of baggage and preconceived notions.”
Towards the end of the interview, Dr. Drew asked Cooper “Is this where you imagined your life at this point in your career? You can hear his answer by clicking on the link below.

Angelina Jolie’s over the top posing wasn’t the only the only thing that stood out at the 84th Annual Academy Awards Sunday night.
According to the Academy, her frail physique ignited 3,399 tweets per minute.
“My eye tells me that she is dangerously malnourished,” HLN’s Dr. Drew told his viewers Monday night.
Last November, Angelina spoke on CBS’ "60 Minutes” about her troublesome past.
“I went through heavy, darker times and I survived them,” she said. “I didn’t die young. So, I’m very lucky.”
In 2002, Jolie’s father, John Voight, begged the star to seek psychiatric care. He told Access Hollywood, "Once in New York, when I tried to get her help, she said, 'You can't help me. You can't help my pain’."
Dr. Drew responded, "Those are hints of severe psychiatric pathology - enough to be life threatening."
He noted, "As you look at Angelina last night at the Oscars - when you see that she has temporal muscle wasting - [it is] a hallmark sign of malnutrition. I’m only sharing this because I don’t want to see another celebrity go down and sit by and see what happens.”
Actress Tracey Gold, who also joined Dr. Drew during the segment, said Jolie "did look alarmingly thin [at the Oscars],” but added, “I'm always careful about speculating too much on what’s going on with a celebrity.”
Kareen Wynter, a correspondent for HLN’s Showbiz Tonight, responded, “Call me crazy, but this is mind-boggling that we’re having this discussion. I’ve interviewed Angelina Jolie a couple times this year. I did not see anything out of the ordinary last night ... I think we’re blowing this out of proportion. This is not a woman who is malnourished.”
Wynter also revealed that she had an eating disorder that nearly ended her life while she was attending college.
“This is why I’m so passionate about this because people mislabel people all the time,” she explained. “I became bulimic because the people around me said, ‘You know what’? You’re too chubby.’ I starved myself and almost died.”
Dr. Drew interjected after a short, yet heated exchange between Gold and Wynter.
“I don’t know if it’s from an eating disorder," he said. "I don’t know if it’s from depression. I don’t know if it’s because she’s making a statement for starving kids in Africa - but I see malnutrition.”
Clinical psychologist Dr. Seth Meyers added, “There’s no question that she appears dangerously thin. I think we need to see her thinness in the context of her overall life ... I wouldn’t be surprised if a hospitalization was that far away for Angelina Jolie.”
Dr. Drew replied, “I hate to say this, but if that’s what she needs, I hope that happens and we’ll have that conversation if that happens."
